'They sabotage beef supply': GFP chief questions govt's 'good governance'

MARGAO

Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai on Monday raised concerns over the ongoing difficulties surrounding beef supplies in the State, questioning whether the BJP government’s actions constituted good governance.

Sardesai alleged that the State government was deliberately creating hurdles to sabotage the supply of beef ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities, which are primarily celebrated by the minority community in Goa. He pointed out that the minority community is the main consumer of beef during the festive season and expressed his frustration over the repeated barriers being imposed on traders.

“Why are there always hurdles in the supply of beef during the festive season? It is only the minority community celebrating Christmas and New Year that is consuming beef. But, we find so many hurdles erected to sabotage the supply, and the traders are being targeted,” he said.

The Fatorda MLA also noted that many Goans living abroad return to the State to celebrate the festive season with their families.

“Goans have come down for the exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier. It is the same Chief Minister who had told someone to speak against Goencho Saib to divert the issue and was given protection,” he added.
