Gadkari had approved elevated bypass for Benaulim, State govt didn't follow through, claims Vijai

MARGAO
Moments after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant opened the western bypass for vehicular traffic, Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai made a big claim that, although Union Minister Nitin Gadkari was ready to approve the construction of the western bypass on stilts on the Benaulim stretch, the Goa government, headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, did not cooperate with the Centre.

“This is my charge against the Goa government. Although the Union Minister was convinced that the bypass passing through the Benaulim stretch needed an elevated corridor, it was not pursued by the Goa government,” he said.

Saying that the Chief Minister could not take credit for the completion of the western bypass project, Sardesai stated that the demand for the construction of the bypass on stilts had been initiated by him during his stint as a Minister. “I had even approached Union Minister Gadkari, but the Goa government did not cooperate, as a result of which the bypass along the Benaulim stretch is not built on stilts. This is not good governance,” he added.
