Thieves break into Aquem house, strike gold worth Rs 1.5 lakh

MARGAO
A daring daylight burglary shocked the citizens of Aquem after a residential apartment was burgled by burglars on Friday noon.

The inmates had left the apartment at around 9 am to their native place for Dussehra when the incident occurred around noon.

The thieves, who were apparently maintaining vigil on the apartment, cut the latch and barged inside. They are believed to have decamped with valuables including gold items consisting of a gold chain, a mangalsutra, two bangles, as many pendants, a pair of earrings, besides a camera.

The value of the stolen items is pegged at around Rs 1.5 lakh.

Upon receipt of the complaint, the Margao police deployed a sniffer dog and requisitioned the services of fingerprint experts to obtain clues, but in vain.

Sources said the burglars were believed to have targeted the apartment at around 1 pm.

The burglary come to light at around 2 pm by the relatives of the inmates. Their worst fears came true when they found the apartment ransacked and the valuables missing from the house.

The Margao police is investigating.
