Bureaucrat-turned-politician Elvis Gomes has flagged the third district carved out by the government under the name “Kushavati”, saying no purpose will be served other than the political interests of the ruling dispensation.
He questioned the creation of a new district when the government has so many means in this electronic age to take the administration to the doorsteps of the people.
Insisting that transport connectivity ought to be considered before carving out a new district, Gomes demanded to know whether talukas such as Canacona would be better connected to the new district headquarters when they are presently well connected to the South Goa district headquarters at Margao. “The only benefit the ruling dispensation would be trying to reap through the new district is electoral gains by setting up a new Zilla Panchayat body comprising of the talukas falling in the new district. This cannot be the criteria for the creation of a new district,” he added.
