AAP leader Prof. Ramrao Wagh has painted a grim picture for the future of the Azossim spring due to a mega housing project in the area.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to the spring on Tuesday, Wagh informed that a mega project has come up just above the spring at the Kadamba plateau.
"The boundary of the project is barely 50 metres from the spring and recently some hill cutting activity was undertaken inside the project property," alleged Wagh.
He further claimed that the debris of the hill cutting along with rubble had washed towards the spring during the rains and the bed of the spring is full of the debris.
"If the debris can reach the spring, there is every likelihood of seepage of sewage which could contaminate the spring water," Wagh said.
He further informed that he has collected water sample from the spring to determine whether the water is contaminated.
"If the results show any contamination, then I will file complaints with relevant authorities like the Pollution Board, Health authorities, etc," Wagh stated.
Wagh then pointed to the beer bottles and other waste littered around the area, and requested local authorities to look into the matter.
"This is our natural heritage which we need to preserve for posterity," Wagh opined and suggested involvement of the community in protecting the spring.
