Three persons died of Covid in Mapusa even as the number of persons infected with the virus kept climbing in Bardez with over 80 positive cases on Thursday.
A 62-year-old man from Feira Alta, a 79-year-old woman from St Sebastian vaddo and a 60-year-old man from Housing Board, all from Mapusa, died and their post-mortem report showed that they were infected with the coronavirus.
While the man from Feira Alta was brought dead at the North Goa District Hospital on Thursday, the woman from St Sebastian vaddo was admitted in the North Goa District Hospital on Wednesday and later shifted to the Goa Medical College, Bambolim where she died.
According to health officials at the Mapusa Urban Health Centre (UHC), the patient from the Housing Board died in a private hospital.
“Among the three who passed away, two were not keeping well and were undergoing treatment for some other illness,” said Dr Cheryl de Souza, Health Officer at Mapusa UHC.
Incidentally, two staff at the Mapusa UHC were tested positive for Covid. The health officer informed that all Covid-related activities will be carried out at the health centre by taking all precautionary measures.
In the meanwhile, Covid cases continued to rise in Bardeztaluka with 25 persons testing positive in Mapusa UHC, 22 in Candolim PHC, 14 each in Aldona PHC and Siolim PHC and 9 in Colvale PHC.
The number of positive cases was widespread in Mapusa with persons from different areas found infected with the virus.
Five persons tested positive in Altinho, three each in Xelpem and Ansabhat, two each in Khorlim, Acoi, Peddem, Ganeshpuri, and one each in Dangui Colony, Duler, Karasvaddo, Housing Board, near the police station and Mapusa city.
A total of 22 persons tested positive in Candolim Primary Health Centre, which includes eight from Candolim, four from Reis Magos, and three in Nerul, two each in Calangute and Sangolda and one each in Saligao, Arpora and Pilerne.
Health Officer at the Siolim Primary Health Centre, Dr SadhnaShetye informed that 14 positive cases were reported from the Siolim PHC which included eight in Verla-Canca and three each in Anjuna and Assagao.
Aldona Primary Health Centre also reported 14 positive cases “ Nachinola (8), Moira (3), Bastora (2) and Pomburpa (1).
Nine persons were found infected with the virus in the jurisdiction of the Colvale primary health centre “ Colvale (4), Tivim (3), Sirsaim (1) and Assonora (1).

Some sarpanchas, leaders in Bardez test positive for virus
MAPUSA:
Quite a few of sarpanchas, panchayat members, executive members of political parties have tested positive in Bardez.
Almost all have preferred home isolation and are taking treatment for the virus from the confines of their homes.
Several former sarpanchas and panchayat members have also tested positive and have remained indoors.
Several of these leaders have admitted to 'The Goan' that they are positive but preferred not to go public about their infection.
