Kala Academy Goa (KA) is celebrating 50 years of Tiatr Group A Competition whereas the Tiatr Academy Goa (TAG) is celebrating the 133rd ‘Tiatr Day’ and KA will be felicitating the associations that had participated in the Group A competitions for the past 50 years.

“As tiatr is the oldest form of entertainment and cultural event, equally popular in rural and urban Goa, Tiatr Academy of Goa is in the process of seeking UNESCO recognition for tiatr. TAG held a series of meetings with the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude in a process of preparing detailed documentation in this regard. We are hoping that in the coming Assembly Session, Goa government will pass a historical resolution to seek UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage recognition for tiatr,” stated TAG president Anthony Barbosa while speaking to The Goan.

TAG will go to grass root level – to Gram Panchayats, Municipalities, CCP, Zilla Parishads. I humbly request all the 40 MLAs, 191 Gram Panchayats, 13 Municipalities, CCP to actively support this feat,” said Barbosa, adding that TAG pays tribute to all the artists, directors, musicians, stage setters, technicians, makeup artists, light and sound persons for their continued support.

TAG humbly remembers Lucasinho Rebeiro who translated the first Tiatr ‘Italian Burgo’ from English to Konkani and performed along with Jose Agustinho Fernandes (Pai Tiatrist). Because of these legendary yesteryear tiatrists, Goa could take the tiatr to the world, free of cost. Our Konkani tiatr got recognition throughout the world and our tiatrists were able to perform and stage their shows internationally, in countries like USA, Canada, Germany, England, UK, Dubai, Portugal, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Qatar etc.

TAG has introduced many schemes to focus tiatr in the interior part of Goa – by providing zamnivaile khell, tiatr, musical shows, singing competitions and talent hunt shows. Wishing all the members of the tiatr fraternity a very happy 133rd Tiatr Day, I pray for all the tiatrists who are ill and also pray that may the lord heal them and bring them back on the Konani tiatr stage, said TAG president.
