Norwegian tech firms eye Goa as strategic base after India-EFTA trade pact

PANAJI:

A recent interaction between senior representatives of Nordik tech companies and a group of top Goan entrepreneurs has kindled hope of long-term business opportunities in the backdrop of the free-trade agreement inked recently by India and EFTA (European Free Trade Association).

Leading Norwegian technology companies are reportedly exploring Goa as a potential hub for expansion in India and senior representatives from Visual Registration System (VRS) “ Eirik Bøen Gravda and Torun TorblÃ¥, besides Rune TorblÃ¥ and Simone Alencar from Odda Digital System interacted with some key Goan industry players.

They conducted targeted demo sessions for representatives of top Goan companies -- Joecons Marine Exports, Models Group Goa, John Distilleries, Pai Kane Group, Goldy Finepacks and Aviza Technologies.

The VRS and Odda Digital teams also showcased their solutions even as they got insights into local operational challenges, according to Porvorim-based Kilowott, a tech and digital solutions company which facilitated the interaction.

Kilowott, which has operations in three continents, is spearheading this "pilot market entry" programme which is designed to help Norwegian firms explore and set up business operations here.

“The trade agreement between India and EFTA has removed trade barriers and improved investment conditions,” Judah Fernandez, Co-Founder of Kilowott said, adding that Norwegian companies are actively looking for a strategic base for growth here.

Fernandez recently participated in the Stavanger Chamber’s Business Event 2025, organised in collaboration with the Indian Embassy in Norway, to explore avenues for deepening bilateral economic ties which led to these interactions in Goa last week.
