In a tragic turn of events, 25-year-old Samruddhi Vaigankar of Khorlim-Mapusa died at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) early Tuesday morning, after sustaining injuries in a self-accident near the Colvale bridge.
Samruddhi, the daughter of former Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson and current councillor Shubhangi Vaigankar and ex-councillor Guru Vaigankar, had been battling for life for over a week following the accident.
She was critically injured after hitting her head on the pavement when the two-wheeler she was riding pillion on skidded near the Colvale bridge.
The incident occurred while she was returning to Mapusa from Pernem along with a friend, who was riding the scooter. The rider reportedly lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the fall. While the rider sustained a fracture, Samruddhi was rendered unconscious at the spot and rushed to GMC in a critical state.
Despite receiving intensive treatment for over a week, Samruddhi breathed her last in the early hours of Tuesday.
She was the eldest among four siblings – three sisters and a brother – and was known to be academically gifted.
At the time of the accident, she was pursuing her PhD, reflecting her deep commitment to education and research.
Her untimely demise has sent shock waves across the Mapusa community, with many expressing grief over the loss of a bright and promising young life.
