“There are plans to set up an industrial estate in the constituency. The focus will be to set up non-polluting units, which will offer employment opportunities to local youth in the area,” said Ticlo, while speaking to The Goan.
He said although land for the industrial estate was yet to be identified, finding a place won’t be a problem, as a lot of comunidade land was available in the constituency.
The IDC chairman said that a huge tract of land at Gavar or the Pomburpa plateau could be ideal for such a project, but added that the decision would be taken after consultation with all stakeholders.
“As it is, a lot of illegal constructions are popping up on comunidade land. It would be a win-win situation if we put up a public-oriented project, as it will fetch revenue for the comunidade and offer jobs to our local youth,” he rationalized.
The Aldona MLA recalled that he had made a spirited move and had even moved a note to set up an industrial hub in Aldona, during the term of the previous government.
To a query on the government offering him the IDC chairman’s post, he said he was very pleased with the corporation allotted to him.
“In the last term, I had headed the Housing Corporation, which was a little complicated when I took over. I have put a lot of systems in place in the corporation which will help the present incumbent,” Ticlo said.
Asked it he felt bad on missing the post of minister, Ticlo replied, “I missed the bus due to compulsions of politics. Since we did not get a majority, we had to bank on support of smaller parties and independents to form government.”
“In such circumstances, the party’s stand is important.”
