Rainfall has reportedly remained absent for nearly 15 days, leading to a noticeable decline in water levels in several rivers and streams.
Farmers are seeking timely installation of shutters on check dams so that the available water can be retained for agricultural use. Any delay, coupled with a prolonged dry spell, could affect cultivation in the coming months.
Farmers said vegetables, flowers and other seasonal crops need regular water, with irregular rainfall already affecting marigold cultivation.
Surveys and preliminary processes are reportedly underway for three additional check dams along the Mhadei River. If implemented, the projects could increase Sattari’s overall water-storage capacity.
Farmers and residents, however, say new structures alone will not be enough. Existing check dams need regular inspection and maintenance, including repairs to shutters and gates, strengthening of structures and removal of accumulated silt wherever required.
