Hitting out at the social wing of the Church - Council for Social Justice and Peace (CSJP) -- for releasing the fact-finding report on desecration of religious structures at the time of the by-poll, Goa Forward has stated no religious body should interfere in politics or try to create a communal divide.
Speaking to media persons, GF Spokesperson Trajano D'Mello said, "It is my firm conviction that the controversial article published in the Pastoral Bulletin Renovocao and the timing of the release by the CSJP investigative report and demand for an SIT probe in the desecration of religious structures at the time of the by-election is an ‘error of judgment.'"
"The sooner the authorities admit the error and reconcile the better. Reconciliation is a teaching of our Church failing which I fear negative fallout against our catholic community," he stated strongly.
Referring to a debate on a local channel focusing on the article on Renovocao and the fact-finding report released by CSJP, he said, "A very disturbing question I was asked was about the sincerity of the investigative report which was released to the press by the CSJP. Another pertinent question raised was that CSJP did not find it necessary to appoint an investigative team and challenge the police investigation in the death of Fr Bismarque Dias."
He, however, assured that GF is an ally of the present government and said, "We will spare no efforts to maintain communal harmony. We will also not allow people in Goa to fuel communal tension and support such act for creating vote banks."
