OLD GOA
The Tiswadi Block Development Officer has directed the panchayats of the block to conduct ordinary gram sabhas as required under the Goa Panchayat Raj Act.
In a memorandum to panchayat secretaries of the Tiswadi block, BDO Anil Dhumaskar has pointed out that the sarpanchas have failed to convene the gram sabhas citing the code of conduct.
“In view of above, village panchayat secretaries of respective village panchayats are hereby directed to place this matter before the sarpanch for immediate action for convening meetings of gram sabha in the month of February as required under section 5(1) of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994,” the memorandum adds.
Meanwhile, a local from Chimbel Ajay Kholkar has submitted a petition to the Chimbel sarpanch to immediately convene the ordinary gram sabha as it has been four months since the last gram sabha was organised.
“Other panchayats have started convening the ordinary gram sabha pertaining to business as mentioned in Section 6 of GPR Act, 1994 more particularly approval of annual accounts, administrative report, budget estimates, etc,” Kholkar cited in his petition.
