Gauncars of Tivim Comunidade settled in Khanapur taluka and other places in the Upper Ghats on Saturday resolved to strongly oppose the decision of the Comunidade to lease over 2 lakh sq mtrs of land to a private educational society to set up a private university.
The gaoncars also decided to extend their support to the ongoing agitation by the local gaoncars of Tivim Comunidade residing in Goa against the leasing of the said land.
A resolution in this regard was passed at a meeting of over 50 gaoncars in Khanapur on Saturday afternoon. Noted activist and former special attorney of the Comunidade Augustine Pereira and team had convened the meeting.
A large number of gaoncars belonging to the Tivim Comunidade have settled in Tivoliwado, Sangargalli, Gunji, Navaga, Mansapur, Bhosgali, Watare, Londa and other villages, including Khanapur town.
“The resolution to lease out the land to Maharashtra Institute of Technology was rather taken hurriedly by keeping majority of gaoncars in dark. This is not acceptable hence we pass a resolution to strongly oppose this decision by the managing committee,” Pereira said.
He also resolved to strengthen the movement of Zonnkars in the Upper Ghats region against the questionable practices in some of the Comunidades.
The gaoncars who are identified as zonnkars in this part also resolved to contest forthcoming elections of the Tivim Comunidade with an intention to give justice to the gaoncars residing out of Goa.
Pereira also appealed to youngsters to come forward and regularly participate in the Tivim Comunidade day to day affairs so that their rights are safeguarded.
An awareness meeting will be held soon at Khanapur to create awareness about the rights of zonnkars and to understand their grievances.
Albert D’Lima, Agnel Pereira, Peter Pereira, Vijay Pereira, Anton Souza, Allen D’Mello, Gilbert D’Souza and over 50 gaoncars were present for the meeting.
