A senior citizen succumbed to injuries he had received in a road accident at Guirim on Friday.

According to information Jhon Dias (73) from Madel-Tivim was knocked down by a car near Bhingis fast food centre in Guirim at around 1 pm on Friday.

He was a former employee of Sesa Goa and is survived by an ailing wife, a son and a daughter.

According to Mapusa Police, John got down from a bus and was crossing the highway towards Bhingis fast food centre when a car proceeding to Panaji knocked him down and in the process, he suffered serious head injuries. The car (GA 03 H 6316) was driven by Samir Kanaik from Morjim.

The injured person was rushed to the Goa Medical College at Bambolim; however, he succumbed to the injuries at around 11 pm on Friday.

Police have booked the car driver for causing death due to rash and negligent driving under Sections 279, 338, 304A of the IPC. PSI Yogesh Gadkar is investigating the case.
