As a first step to put the plan in motion, the panchayat has set up garbage management committee, which will be headed by sarpanch while all ward panchas will be members of the committee. Besides, some locals - Josephine Pinto, Subhash Handigal, Subhash Kauthankar and Robert Colaco - have been appointed as members of panel.
The secretary informed that the panchayat has received Rs 24 lakh funds from the 14th Finance Commission which will be utilized to buy a garbage truck for the village. It was also informed that every household will be provided two waste bins each for collection of dry and wet waste separately. Since it's a service provided to the door, the panchayat has decided to collect Rs 300 per house per year as garbage tax.
"The door-to-door garbage collection is still in a planning stage and the garbage management committee will hold more meetings to fine tune the whole proposal. We also welcome suggestions from the locals," the secretary said.
