PANAJI
Rajya Sabha MP and Trinamool Congress’s Goa co-in charge Sushmita Dev on Thursday posed serious questions to the Prime Minister.
The most pertinent among them being, ‘What has BJP’s double engine sarkar done for Goa?’ A flurry of questions followed thereafter at a press conference held at the party office in Panaji which was also addressed by Goa TMC Vice-President Rajendra Kakodkar and Mahila Wing Vice-President Pratibha Borkar.
Lashing out at the BJP government both at the Centre and the state, Sushmita Dev remarked, “The PM is not going to face the media, but we, the TMC, want answers to simple questions. What has your double engine Sarkar done for Goa? Your double engine government has given three linear projects which completely ignore Goa’s environmental concerns.”
Hitting out at the Congress-BJP nexus, Rajendra Kakodkar said that both the BJP and Congress were hand in hand when it came to supplying and purchasing MLAs, corruption and jumlas.
Reminding the PM of his duties, Pratibha Borkar said, “They talk about Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao but women in Goa are not safe. The CM has still not broken his silence on the Siddhi Naik case. BJP claims that they have led to Goa’s development in the last 10 years, I want to ask, is this the development they are talking about? An unsafe and devastated Goa?’”
Elaborating how the TMC was the only credible alternative, Sushmita Dev said, “We assure you good governance over the next five years. We assure you a Goa free of communal politics and the politics of division. We assure you a government in Goa which is free of corruption and which has clarity of policy.”
Speaking on Congress’s inability to play the role of Opposition, she added, “I have only two things to ask - What is it that it will do to keep its flock together? And why is it that the high command could not form the government despite getting the mandate? There is nothing that has been done differently by the Congress from 2017 until now except the photo-op of pledge.”
