PANAJI
In an all-out attack against the ruling BJP dispensation, the TMC on Monday highlighted the rise in crime against women in Goa.
The attack was led by Rajya Sabha MP & AITC Goa co-incharge Sushmita Dev along with Goa TMC Mahila Wing President Avita Bandodkar and Goa TMC General Secretary Swati Kerkar, stated TMC in a press release.
At a press conference held at the party office in Panaji, TMC leaders highlighted how the Pramod Sawant-led government had failed women at every step of the way, be it in providing them with a safe and secure environment or job opportunities in either the private or government sector, the release states.
Launching a scathing attack against the Central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sushmita Dev said, "The PM believes in ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’, but the rape cases in Goa are double the national average. Why didn't Amit Shah say anything about this yesterday when he was here?"
Stating facts from the NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) report, Sushmita Dev said, "According to the 2020 report by NCRB, the rate of rapes in Goa at 7.8% is higher than the national average of 4.3%. Another grave cause of concern is that 66% of the rape survivors are minor girls. State Police data from May 2021 suggests that at least four crimes against women are reported every week - a pattern that has remained consistent since 2017.’
