Tony holds sway in St Cruz, Chimbel VPs

St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes was able to wrest the two panchayats of Santa Cruz and Chimbel, which went to the polls for the post of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch, on Monday.

In Santa Cruz, where Fernandes’ panel had a majority, Mariano Araujo was elected as sarpanch, while Sonu de Araujo was elected as deputy sarpanch.   
In Chimbel vilalge panchayat, too, Fernandes was able to bring together like-minded panchas and form the panel with the support of seven panchas.   
Sources informed that one of the main agenda of the panel was to keep 
Mohan Narve and his panchas out of power.   
Here, Chandrakant Kunkolkar was elected as sarpanch, while Manisha Chopdekar was elected as deputy sarpanch.   
Mohini Narve had also filed nomination for both the posts of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch. 
But, since the proposer Mohan Narve did not sign the proceedings book, her nomination was rejected.
