Torxem land deal: Court refuses anticipatory bail to Arolkar

MAPUSA

The Mapusa Fast Track Court rejected former councillor and Saichha Developers owner Tarak Arolkar’s anticipatory bail plea in an alleged Rs 41.85 lakh cheating case linked to a Torxem, Pernem, land deal.

According to the prosecution, Arolkar offered Sandhya Manuel Bhandare Sequeira the 51,560-sq-m ‘Rumdache Pani’ property in 2022. After an MoU, she allegedly paid Rs 41,85,750. The prosecution said Arolkar neither completed the transaction nor executed sale documents or refunded the money. Police registered a case under Sections 316(2) and 318(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Arolkar denied dishonest intent, called it a commercial dispute and claimed to have refunded Rs 8.5 lakh. The court cited the need for custodial interrogation.
