A 55-year-old tourist from Tamil Nadu, identified as Muruganandam, died of an acute heart attack while staying at a hotel in Arpora. The deceased, a real estate businessman, was reportedly suffering from high cholesterol and hypertension.
The incident occurred at around 3.30 am on Saturday. The tourist group from Tamil Nadu had arrived in Goa on the evening of September 17 and checked into a hotel in Arpora.
On Friday night, Muruganandam consumed alcohol with his friends. Later, he went to sleep in a room with his friend D Jothibabu, while the other members of the group retired to their respective rooms.
At around 3.20 am on Saturday, Jothibabu woke up and found Muruganandam lying motionless on the floor. He raised an alarm and informed the other members of the group and the hotel management. An ambulance was subsequently called.
The 108 ambulance personnel examined Muruganandam and declared him dead.
After receiving information about the incident, Anjuna Police Sub-Inspector Nitesh Shingadi, along with other police personnel, rushed to the spot and conducted a panchanama. The body was then sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, for post-mortem examination.
The post-mortem examination was conducted later in the morning, with doctors stating in their report that Muruganandam had died of an acute heart attack.
Further investigation is being carried out by the police.
