Petrol worth Rs 2,000 was dispensed to a car at a pump in Dhargal-Pernem, but the currency notes presented to the pump attendant were far from genuine.

In fact, four Rs 500 notes of the ‘Children Bank of India’ were handed over to the unsuspecting pump attendant at the Sairaj Petrol Pump at Dhargal on Sunday at about 11 pm for fuel worth Rs 2,000.

By the time the fake notes were detected, the motorist had left the petrol pump. The owner of the petrol pump lodged a complaint with the Pernem Police on Monday morning.

Incidentally, the car was captured on CCTV footage at the petrol pump, but the possibility that the registration number of the car may be fake has not been ruled out.

Police have started investigations to locate the car through CCTV footage along the route it travelled from Suke Kulan to Patradevi on the National Highway.
