With anti-social activities raising their ugly head along the Margao station road, a group of traders from the area led by Margao Municipal Council councillor Rupesh Mahatme called on the Margao police seeking stern action in the matter.
Sources informed that anti-social activities have indeed touched a new high along the road, especially on the stretch from the old station premises near the footbridge to the Apollo hospital. A video, which went viral showing a group of women and two men in a scuffle only goes to suggest that all’s not well.
Sources further said that prostitution has returned in a big way at the railway foot bridge, which many say is the root cause of the anti-social activities in the area. Questions are also raised whether the bars shut down as per the timings laid down in the excise permits given that many a bar along the road is found open late in the night.
Margao PI Tushar Lotlikar gave the delegation of traders a patient hearing and promised to crack a whip against the anti-social activities. Sources said a police van was found stationed on the station road near the old station premises to send a signal to the miscreants that the police meant business.
Councillor Rupesh Mahatme informed that the traders and members of the business community called on the Margao police seeking action. “Apart from the anti-social activities, we have come across many persons lying on the roads after consuming drinks. We have impressed on the police station in-charge to initiate action against the anti-social activities,” he added.
