Union Ayush Minister Shripad Naik on Monday said yoga is expected to be part of the educational curriculum from the next academic year.
Stating this to reporters during a visit to the Goa Shipyard Limited, Naik also informed that the main function of International Yoga Day would be participated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Ranchi-Jharkhand on June 21.
“The Ayush Ministry has already sent a proposal to the union HRD ministry to include yoga in the educational curriculum and we expect the proposal to be cleared as soon as possible.”
“After the proposal is cleared, yoga will be part of the curriculum from the next academic year (2020-21). We have also plans to make yoga compulsory for students right from school to college level as part of the Physical Education (PE) curriculum.”
“The central government has already started introducing yoga to defence and para-military forces in the country,” the union minister added.
Speaking on International Yoga Day, Naik said the number of countries which host International Yoga Day has increased from 177 countries to almost 200 countries and attributed it to increased awareness on yoga across the world.
“Many yoga gurus and invitees from abroad will participate in the International Yoga Day function at Ranchi,” Naik said.
