Traditional bhajan art shows the richness of our culture and in order to protect this culture, we have to organise Sangeet Sammelans to create a stage for our young singers, stated journalist Kishor Naik Gaonkar at second Sangeet Sammelan organised at Thane in Sattari taluka in memory of late Fati Gaonkar. This Sammelan was inaugurated by lightning the traditional lamp at Navadurga Sateri Temple premises at Thane.
Organising committee president Sagun Wadkar, ZP Member Devyani Gawas, local Sarpanch prajita Gawas, Sattari Urban Co-Operative credit society chairman Yashwant Gawas, organising committee working president Laxman Gawas, Secretary Zali Gaonkar Temple committee president Uttam Gaonkar and other dignitaries were present on this occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Naik Gaonkar said that Sattari has a unique history in various fields. The protest against IIT by locals adds to this remarkable history. It showed an ideological way ahead for Goans in the future, he said further.
Speaking on the occasion, Sagun Wadkar said that Fati Gaonkar was an honest and active social worker during his ZP tenure. He has worked a lot for the development of society and his name should be remain unblemished.
Five senior bhajan artists were felicitated at the hands of the dignitaries.
Laxman Gawas welcomed the gathering. Zilu Gaonkar and Krishna Gawas expressed their views on the Sammelan.
The programme was compered by Sanjay Salelkar while Dr Sundar Dhuri proposed a vote of thanks. During the Sammelan, many locals performed their art.
