Days after the High court issued the directions to remove parking of fish trucks on both sides of the wholesale fish market road, the Margao Traffic Cell cracked a whip against vehicles parked along the road.
Day one of the action at and around the wholesale fish market road saw traffic officials led by PI Dalvi descending on the road to crack a whip against the vehicles. In fact, PI Dalvi informed that the traffic cell issued as many as 10-12 challans on the vehicle owners for parking their vehicles along the wholesale fish market road.
He told The Goan that many a fish vehicle parked on the road were taken away by the owners after the police conveyed them the High Court decision. “Those vehicles which were found parked along the wholesale fish market road were later challaned”, he said.
Each of the vehicles were fined Rs 500, sources said.
The Margao Traffic police team had descended on the wholesale fish market road early Thursday, a day after a joint inspection of the wholesale fish market road and the market by the team comprising of Margao Municipal Chief officer, Gaurish Sankhwalkar, SGPDA Member secretary Sheikh Ali, police and traffic officials.
PI Dalvi informed that the police would continue the drive against parking of vehicles on both sides of the wholesale fish market road after the business hours in the SGPDA market.
