VALPOI
Acting on growing public demands, the Traffic Cell on Wednesday conducted a sudden drive against motorists and fined 225 of them for riding without a helmet, licence and violating the SOPs in Valpoi town.
According to sources, residents in Valpoi town had been complaining about a growing number of two-wheeler riders travelling without helmets, excessive blowing of horns and other such issues.
Taking note of these complaints, Bicholim Traffic Police Inspector Sudesh Velip and his team began a sudden drive against motorists near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Garden in Valpoi town.
The sudden action took several two-wheeler riders by surprise and as news of the sudden drive against motorists spread across Valpoi town, many motorists waited near the Sattari Taluka Farmers Credit Society for a long time to avoid action by the traffic police.
When contacted, PI Velip said there were repeated calls from people from Valpoi to take action against motorists violating rules.
“Around 125 motorist were penalised for not wearing helmet and driving without a licence. Also, over 100 people have been penalised for not wearing a mask in this town.
“Such action will continue every week in this town to tackle indiscipline among motorists in Valpoi town,” said PI Velip.
