TCP Minister Vijai Sardessai on Wednesday said that the traffic diversion plan was in the domain of the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Sardessai was speaking to reporters after attending the feast of St Joseph Vaz at the old Church of Our Lady of Health in Sancoale.
While stating that his views on traffic diversion were not in complete agreement with those of PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar, Vijai said that he was not aware of the proposed traffic diversion between Panaji and Margao via Cortalim Circle till the news broke out in the media.
Sardessai said that his personal opinion was not to have the traffic diversion at all as it could affect a lot of people from South Goa and paralyze the movement of traffic between two important cities.
“The plans of diverting traffic via railways land is there and prima face showed that the distance had reduced to around 6 kms which is a welcome decision. My condition is that till the time the bridge spans are not complete on the river stretch, there should be no diversion. My personal opinion is not to have a diversion at all since it would heavily affect South Goa residents especially officer goers, government servants and students. The government policy should be such that public are not put to inconvenience that too for such a long time,” said Sardessai.
“I am of the opinion that the diversion plans should be avoided and if at all it is inevitable then it must be minimum distance for minimum time and not for a stretch of one year. I have also spoken about this to the CM as this could paralyze everything and cause great inconvenience to people of South Goa. I feel that if we have not complete the river stretch then, why to divert first. Eventually when the river span works will be taken up, again we may have to close the roads making it even more difficult and diversion may have to continue for more time again. People should be put to the least inconvenience. PWD Minister has put up his points and the CM is in two minds. I am not in complete agreement with the views of the PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar on this traffic diversion issue,” said Sardessai.
