Traffic resumes on road between Khanapur and Goa

Belagavi

Traffic on the busy Khanapur–Goa road via Hemadaga, which was disrupted from Sunday evening after floodwaters submerged the bridge across the Halatar (Haltri) rivulet, resumed on Monday afternoon as the water level receded. Heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats since Saturday caused the rivulet to swell, with floodwaters flowing over the low-level bridge and forcing authorities to suspend vehicular movement.

Khanapur police had closed the road on Sunday evening and diverted Goa-bound traffic through Ramnagar or Chorla to ensure public safety. The closure caused considerable inconvenience to commuters travelling between Belagavi and Goa on Sunday night.

, with many motorists forced to take longer alternate routes.
