PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar on Saturday promised to keep the highway open at Mushirwaddo-Colvale open and to erect a traffic signal there.
The minister was speaking after inspecting the junctions at Colvale and Peddem in the presence of Tivim MLA Nilkanth Halarnkar, Aldona Glenn Ticlo, panch Nityanand Kandolkar, councillor Vikas Arolkar and PWD engineer Uttam Parsekar.
"We know the problem regarding this highway and we were following up with PWD officials, ministers and chief minister. Eight months ago, the PWD minister had inspected the road and two months ago, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had also inspected the road,” said Halarnkar.
Meanwhile, Pauskhar also told Ticlo and Mapusa councillor Vikas Arolkar that building an underpass or flyover at Peddem junction is not part of the highway widening work.
"The service roads at both sides will be equal and no divider will be built at this stretch. Hence, it will be possible for people to travel on the highway. The government will also consider the possibility of an underpass," the minister added.
