With the strict implementation of Election Code of Conduct on account of the assembly polls, trafficking and even storing of alcohol has become a challenging task for traders in Canacona taluka.

The Canacona Excise unit led by Excise Inspector Pramod Juvekar has confiscated 1864.12 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) at different point of time stacked in about 50 cases and valued at Rs 6.24 lakh.

“The seizures were at different point of time and places and mostly during the campaigning period for the recently concluded assembly polls,” informed Juvekar.

Sources informed that though elections are over and the code of conduct still in force, illegal accumulation and storage of accounted liquor is still being seriously monitored by the excise team.

According to sources, a strict watch is being maintained at the State’s border at Polem check post, while excise sleuths are also keeping a strict watch on the taluka’s coastline from the isolated coves starting at Cabo-de-Ram in Khola to the Polem beach coast.
