Speaking at Porvorim, Rane stated, “No business advisory committee meeting was held. The official business bulletin we have received only mentions that the 15th session of the sixth legislative Assembly has been convened on Tuesday at 11.30 am where the Governor of Goa will ‘inform the Assembly of the causes of its summons’. What is the business?”
He informed that no questions were sent and there will be no replies offered and expressed displeasure over the short notice. “The notice is dated February 25 but we received it only on Sunday. Besides, why the tearing hurry when it is only the address of the government which will be read by the governor?” he questioned.
The senior Congressman also pointed out that it is highly unusual for the session to be summoned after elections have been conducted and before the results are out. He also questioned whether the government can take any decisions while the code of conduct is in force.
Meanwhile, it was informed that members of the Congress Legislative Party will raise issue of service voters casting their ballot over 35 days, Mhadei, proposal of license to sixth off-shore casino and ban on sale of liquor within 500 mts of highway. CLP spokesperson Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco insisted that the government shouldn’t have summoned the House ‘just to fulfill constitutional requirement’.
“The petition pending before High Court has forced the government to convene the session.
But in the bargain, the democratic institution will be tarnished,” Reginaldo stated while also raising questions over the authority of the govt after fresh polls.
Reginaldo also commented on the army recruitment scam which came to light on Sunday. Among the 18 arrested and over 300 detained by Thane police were three people arrested from Anjuna for leaking the question paper of army recruitment test to 49 candidates, who were scheduled to take the test from a centre in Goa.
“For a long time now, the BJP has been alleging that the Congress government was involved in scams. But they have not offered any concrete proof to substantiate their allegations despite being in power for five years.
Now a scam has come to light in Manohar Parrikar’s own ministry. Does he not know anything about it?” Reginaldo retorted.
