Tragic end for 5 youth as car hurtles down into a gorge at Tillari Ghat

Sunday turned out to be a tragic day for five youngsters from Belagavi who died in a ghastly car accident at Tillari ghat about 20 kms from Goa border. The youngsters had gone to Tillari on Sunday morning and died a tragic death after the Wagon R they were travelling fell into a gorge in the deadly Tillari Ghat. The incident occurred Sunday afternoon.

According to Chandgad police the driver might have lost balnce while dealing with a treacherous turn after which the car fell in a 50 feet deep gorge near Laskhar point, killing all the five on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Yallapa Patil (Bokmur) (45), Jotirling Sampat Tevekar (30), Mohan L Redekar (40) (Balekundri), Nagendar Babu Gavde(30) (Ashte) and Krishna Gavde (29).

While three fell out of the car and died, two bodies were stuck inside the mangled car and the bodies were recovered using gas cutter.

Police said that in another accident that had occurred a couple of years ago on the same spot, an ambulance had slipped killing 4 people.

Scores of people from Belagavi and Goa region travel to the beautiful lush green Tillari ghats where big and small water falls that emerge during rainy season attract tourists. Though the exact reason for the fatal accident is not known, according to onlookers dense fog might have caused the accident. A case is registered at Chandgad police station.
