Tons of waste strewn along Eastern bypass

MARGAO

Even as the capital city is all decked up to host the 49th edition of IFFI 2018, beginning from Tuesday, there was no glitter as one travelled by the Eastern bypass, around 30 kms from the State capital.

A big stretch of Eastern bypass, particularly along the stretch between Maruti Temple and Aquem Power house was an eyesore for many a traveller with mounds of waste dumped all along the road.

It’s not known whether the area falls in a no man’s land or in the jurisdiction of the Margao Municipal Council or the Rumdamol village. For, this place has been a perfect waste dumping site over the last several months, giving the place a bad look. In the past, the Margao Municipal Council had cleared tons of waste dumped on the Municipal side of the Eastern bypass. Sources, however said whether the bypass falls in the jurisdiction of the Municipal area or the neighbouring village remains unknown.

Questions have been raised why the PWD which has a jurisdiction over the Eastern bypass take up the work of clearing up the waste by segregation since the waste is found dumped along the road side.
