Electricity was, however, restored to the affected areas within 30 minutes, Assistant Engineer S N Krishna told The Goan. "A Ponda fire brigade rushed to the site and doused the fire, preventing the flames from spreading further," said fire station officer Sushil Morajkar.
It may be recalled that a similar incident had occurred at this sub station in March, affecting power supply in many areas. "The fire broke out at the 220KV transformer and further spread to surrounding EHV equipments," said Krishna.
Acording to him, some parts of Xeldem, Verna, Vasco, Ponda Sub-Urban including OPA and Madkaimand Kundaim were affected. "Power supply was quickly restored within 30 minutes," he added.
The electricity department is ascertaining the loss to electrical equipment on account of the fire.
