BICHOLIM: Former Mayem panchas Kashinath Mayekar and Subhash Kinalkar have demanded transparency in the audit of Mayem Panchayat without succumbing to political pressure.
Addressing local reporters in Bicholim, Mayekar and Kinalkar said the audit of Mayem Panchayat was in progress.
“Officials should conduct the audit freely and in a transparent manner without succumbing to any political pressure, as there have been several fraudulent practices being carried out by a former Mayem sarpanch and former panchayat secretary during their tenure,” said Mayekar.
They said works like submitting different bills for a single work, signing attendance register in a fraudulent manner, selling scrap by mentioning the name of panch member, who was not present while passing the resolution of selling scrap and other illegal works, which have led to a fraud of more than Rs 12 lakh during the last tenure.
They further said they have also lodged a complaint with the Vigilance department with the help of required information obtained through the Right to Information Act.
They said the officials while conducting audit should take into account all these aspects. They said they have also decided to go to court, if they find something suspicious during the audit process.
