From July 1, all transactions above Rs 1,000 at the Directorate of Transport will have to be cashless, while the Department will go 100% cashless by October 1, keeping in tune with the directives of the Directorate of Accounts.
In a circular issued by Director of Transport Nikhil Desai, the Department will also accept cash payments only during the morning hours while card payments will be accepted throughout the day.
“To prepare the groundwork for going completely cashless, it has been decided that all cash transactions especially those exceeding Rs 1,000 and above will not be accepted in cash in the respective offices and they shall be done through credit or debit cards,” Desai said in his circular.
“Timings for acceptance in cash will be from 10 am to 1pm only during working days, but individuals who prefer to pay by credit or debit cards payments shall be accepted from 10am to 5pm,” he added.
Cashless payments are already being accepted at the Directorate of Transport through Point of Sale machines installed by HDFC Bank and State Bank of India.
