Vasco is the only place in the State connected with all four modes of transport, and now all three legislators in the port town will get to control all forms of transportation in the State.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Friday allotted Dabolim MLA and Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho with the key portfolio of transport, while also assigning Mormugao MLA and Urban Development Minister Milind Naik with the river navigation portfolio. Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida continues to be the chairperson of the Kadamba Transport Corporation.
When contacted, newly appointed Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said he did have ambitious plans for the transport department, but was quick to add that it was too early to comment on his priorities for the department.
“I have just been allotted the portfolio of transport. I will first convene a review meeting and a briefing with all officers in the entire department and then I will formulate my plan of action,” said Godinho.
Despite efforts, newly appointed River Navigation Minister Milind Naik was unavailable for his comment.
When contacted, KTCL Chairman Carlos Almeida said that he would align with the transport department and make the best use of the department for the benefit of KTCL.
“I had no issues even when Sudin Dhavalikar was earlier the transport minister. Mauvin is my good friend and also from Mormugao taluka, so it is even better. We are from the same party and we will definitely coordinate with each other and this will also benefit the KTCL,” said Almeida.
Has Ajgaonkar been sidelined?
MARGAO: The allocation of the prized Transport portfolio to Panchayat Minister Mauvi Godinho when everyone was expecting the same to go to deputy Chief Minister Babu Ajgaonkar raised many eyebrows in political circles.
Reason: Ajgaonkar had told the media soon after he was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant would bestow him the Transport portfolio.
Babu was on record that since Deepak Pauskar has got the prized PWD portfolio which was held by former PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar, he was optimistic that he would get the Transport portfolio during the portfolio distribution.
When The Goan called up Babu to get his comment, the Deputy CM only said he would comment on the matter only after he is in receipt of the copy of the notification, even though he admitted he had made a positive statement in this regard.
