Stating that the power department is working for the benefit of the people, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral sought people’s cooperation in providing uninterrupted power supply in the State.

“The public has to cooperate with the department by allowing installation of electricity poles, transformers, etc wherever necessary,” said Cabral, after inaugurating two 200 KVA transformers at Santa Cruz on Friday in the presence of St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes, Santa Cruz Sarpanch Lawrence Rodrigues, Deputy Sarpanch Indira Fernandes, panchas, power officials and others.

The two transformers were installed at Segundo Bairro and Primeiro Bairro respectively at a combined cost of over Rs 40 lakh.

Speaking further, Cabral said the Central BJP government has provided enough power supply to the State, but adequate infrastructure for distribution is lacking. “If the people support the government in installing the necessary infrastructure, then I assure that within the next one to one-and-half years, the State will receive uninterrupted power supply 24 hours a day,” he assured.

“Before I took over, the department did not have fuses for replacement, but today I have put things in order and seen to it that everything is available,” he added and informed that he has shared his number with the public so that they can contact him if there is any problem related to power.

Earlier, St Cruz MLA Fernandes thanked the minister for fulfilling the demand of the villagers with the commissioning of the two transformers, which, he said, would help in solving the power problems faced by the locals.

“I further request the minister to look into the problems of street lighting, need of additional vehicle, increase of power staff, replacement of 6.3 MVA transformer with 10 MVA transformer at Bambolim sub station,” Fernandes stated.

Santa Cruz Sarpanch Lawrence Rodrigues also spoke .
