Stating that power consumers consuming less than 100 units per month will be charged Re 1 per unit, even as Power Minister Nilesh Cabral said his government believes in pampering the poor.
“Today, we have more than 6.5 lakh consumers, of which 2.25 lakh consume less than 100 units per month which shows that there are people who have nothing. So at present, those consuming less than 100 units have to pay Rs 1.40 per unit. This government intends to make it to 1 Re per unit. This will be put up in the next JRC,” Cabral informed. “But those who are consuming over 100 units, they can afford to pay. So those consuming over 100 units will have to pay the slab corresponding to the units they consume.”
“For instance, if somebody consumes 300 units per month, that consumer will have to pay the slab corresponding to 300 units,” he added.
“So, I am changing the policy without increasing the tariff. I can assure the people of Goa who are poor i.e. those consuming below 100 units, will get the benefit of paying only Re 1 per unit. This government believes that the poor people should be pampered,” he stated.
