Continuous heavy rainfall since Sunday morning has caused significant disruptions across various parts of Bardez.
The downpour led to multiple incidents of tree collapses, flooding in houses, and extensive waterlogging on both main roads and internal routes, including sections of National Highway 66.
Heavy rains resulted in substantial waterlogging on major thoroughfares and internal roads, causing severe inconvenience to vehicular movement.
Nonetheless, at least two vehicles were damaged, and electricity wires were snapped, leading to power outages in certain areas.
Widespread waterlogging: Personnel from the Mapusa fire station were on high alert throughout the day, responding to numerous reports of tree collapses. Their swift actions helped manage the chaos caused by the falling trees and subsequent damages.
In Karaswada, Mapusa, continuous rainfall led to rainwater entering a house and flooding the parking area in the basement of a building.
Upon receiving the report, fire officials promptly arrived at the scene and used pumps to extract the water, preventing further damage.
In Guirim, a newly purchased car, only two days old, was significantly damaged when a coconut tree fell on it near the panchayat ghar.
Highway flooding: A critical section of NH-66 near the Colvale Housing Board area was severely affected, with almost 500 meters of the highway submerged under water.
This situation created substantial difficulties for motorists navigating the flooded roads.
The accumulation of such a large volume of water in just one day highlights significant flaws in the highway’s drainage and planning systems.
Additionally, knee-deep water was reported near Peddem on the service road leading to the Karasvaddo junction, exacerbating the already challenging conditions for drivers and pedestrians.
The flooding, particularly on major roads and highways, not only disrupted daily life but also posed serious safety risks to the community.
Rising water levels in the Par River have led to flooding in Assonora, with water entering the homes of several residents living along the riverbank.
In a similar situation, heavy rains caused the road near the Guirim panchayat office to become submerged, creating severe challenges for motorists.
