Trees uprooted, outages as rains lash Sattari

Traffic was disrupted as trees got uprooted at many places and power supply was disrupted in many villages, when unseasonal rains lashed Sattari taluka on Tuesday evening

The sudden rains at about 5 pm caught motorists and people by surprise, with people and two-wheeler riders scurrying to take cover.

The strong winds also led to the uprooting of a number of trees at many places, disrupting traffic along the roads. The Valpoi Fire Station attended to a number of calls to clear the uprooted trees.

Tuesday is the weekly market day of Valpoi city and a large crowd to shop in Valpoi town were stranded due to the sudden rains. A number of vendors also suffered losses on account of the rains.

Power supply in many villages of Sattari taluka was also disrupted till night. Teams from the electricity office were working to restore power supply in the affected areas.

Some houses and vehicles were damaged as unseasonal rains struck Bicholim taluka on Tuesday evening.

Some houses were reportedly damaged in Nanora, Mayem, Pilgao, Chorao, Pali and Kudnem. A vehicles was also badly damaged in Pilgao, while two vehicles were damaged in Pilgao.

Bicholim Fire Officer Rahul Desai stated that the properties were damaged after trees came crashing down. The Bicholim Fire Station was engaged in clearing the fallen trees in about 25 places across the taluka.
