MARGAO
Seeking the intervention of TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai and Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco with a plea to permit their vehicles to transport mineral ore from Cavrem, the Margao Salcete Truck Owners Association has demanded that those obstructing them from plying and transporting the ore from mines at Cavrem be taken to task by initiating stringent action against the guilty.
The truck owners led by President Franky Gomes and Treasurer Vallab Varak submitted a memorandum to the office of the TCP Minister, which was accepted by Margao Municipal Chairperson Babita Prabhudesai in his absence.
The truck owners also called on Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco and sought his intervention to get the authorities act against the persons responsible for stopping their vehicles from transporting ore from Cavrem.
The Curtorim MLA said he has already spoken to the Deputy Collector, warning that the Salcete truck owners will resort to an agitation, including blocking of traffic, if their genuine grievances are not resolved by the authorities at the earliest.
In the meantime, Sarpanch of Davorlim M Sarfaraj Sheikh also made a fervent plea to the TCP Minister and the government to allow the trucks from Margao and Salcete to transport ore from Cavrem.
“Our livelihood depends on the plying and transportation of the ore. We have to repay loans. Due to the illegal stoppage of our trucks, we have been deprived of our livelihood and have sustained huge losses since our trucks have been lying idle at Cavrem,” stated Franky.
They pointed out that the trucks from Margao and Salcete have complied with all the conditions, including installation of GPS, which allows them to ply and transport ore from any part of the state.
In the memorandum, the truck owners also mentioned the names of four persons in the memorandum, who were allegedly responsible for obstructing their trucks from transporting ore from Cavrem.
