A late-evening altercation near Holy Church, Verna, on Tuesday led to two brothers being allegedly abused, assaulted and threatened by two youths from Sancoale, with one of the victims sustaining injuries after being struck with an iron rod.
The incident occurred at around 7.55 pm when Reynold Abranches and his brother Sheldon, both from Verna, were allegedly confronted near the church premises by Richie Dias and Sheldon Carvalho, both from Sancoale.
According to the complaint, the accused, acting with common intention, first abused the brothers before launching a physical assault using fist blows. The situation escalated when accused Richie Dias allegedly picked up an iron rod and assaulted Sheldon Abranches, causing injuries. Both accused are further alleged to have threatened the complainant and his brother with dire consequences before leaving the spot.
Based on the complaint lodged by Reynold Abranches, Verna police have registered an offence under Sections 352, 115(2), 118(1) and 351(3) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Mahesh Bhomkar of Verna police station under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
