Two brothers shot at over property row at Mandur

The Agassaim police have arrested one Peter Vaz for allegedly shooting at two men in broad daylight on Friday. While the victim brothers Shyam and Sushant Vengurlekar survived the incident, the police have registered a case of attempt to murder against the 71-year-old and are simultaneously preparing a case to recommend the Collector (North) for suspension of arms license.

“When the complainant, Shyam (55) and his brother Sushant along with others were cleaning his property at Mandur, Vaz approached them and began abusing Shyam with filthy language. He further threatened the complainant to kill with a pistol and thereafter pointed the gun towards the brothers and fired (two shots),” Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Nidhin Valsan said.

No casualties are reported. Based on a complaint, the Agassaim police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of IPC, and Section 27 of Arms Act.

The police stated that the accused confessed to his crime and the weapon, .25 bored pistol make-Zehna having 5 rounds, is also seized for further investigation.

Police Inspector Vikram Naik confirmed to The Goan that they will write to the authorities for the suspension of his arms license.
