Two get interim relief in child abuse case
PANAJI: Goa Children's Court on Friday granted anticipatory bail to Vishal Gaonkar (26) and Jitendra Gaonkar (45), both residents of Marcel in Ponda taluka, in a case of abuse of a 15-year-old girl registered by Ponda Police on April 10.
It was informed that the complainant's family and family of the accused have a long-standing dispute.
The complaint stated that on April 10, the two accused trespassed into the residence of the victim and assaulted her brother and abused her.
Ponda Police have registered an offence under Section 452 (house trespass), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke) and 506 (criminal intimidation) read with Section 34 of IPC and under Section 8 (2) (child abuse) of Goa Children's Act, 2003.
The Court observed that the medical examination of the victim showed simple injuries. Hence, Children's Court President Vandana Tendulkar noted that custody of the accused was not required for any specific investigation.
However, as Vishal Gaonkar is a government servant, the Court held that the chances of him absconding are less. Gaonkar is a police constable attached with the Margao police station.
PSI Nitin Halarnkar of Ponda Police is investigating the case further.

Man accused of killing daughter remanded
PANAJI: The Goa Children's Court on Friday remanded Harbansh Mahto (35), native of Aurangabad in Bihar, and currently residing at Dhauji in Old Goa, accused of committing a murder of his minor daughter to seven days police custody.
Sources informed that Mahto has confessed to committing the crime. However, police have yet to establish a motive behind the brutal offence, it has been learnt.
Post mortem report from Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim observed that the minor girl died due to strangulation.
Following this report, Mahto was arrested by Old Goa Police under Section 302 (murder) of IPC and under Section 8(2) of Goa Children’s Act, 2003.
The incident came to light when the mother of the child found that her child was not breathing and began screaming for help. A crowd which then gathered called for medical help.
The child was declared dead by the ambulance staff.
Sources also informed that the mother of the child, in her complaint, had stated that Mahto had threatened to kill their child.
PSI Sagun Sawant of Old Goa Police station is investigating the case.
