Ucassaim sarpanch voted out
MAPUSA: The no-confidence motion against Ucassaim sarpanch George D’Souza was successfully passed by 4 votes to 2 on Friday morning.
When discussion on the no-trust motion was taken up in the morning, six out of seven panchas were present for the meeting.
The four panchas, who had moved the no-confidence motion, remained together even as one member, Virendra Salgaonkar remained absent.
When the motion was put to vote, sarpanch George D’Souza was voted out four against two votes.
George D’Souza and Anand Gadekar voted against the motion.
Four panch members - Kanti Kandolkar, Shubhanand Mandrekar, Gauravi Madgaonkar and Rajesh Dabale, had moved the no-confidence motion against the sarpanch.
Mahadev Gaonkar was the observer at the meeting.
The fall of the panchayat could come as as a dampener to the Aldona MLA who held sway over the panchayat till recently.
Sources disclosed that Shubhanand Mandrekar is tipped to be the next sarpanch of Ucassaim.
