VASCO: As part of plans by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to upgrade security arrangements, the Dabolim Airport has acquired a Mini Robotic Operated Vehicle (MROV) at a cost of Rs 1.6 crore. According to sources, the MORV will be operated by the Bomb detection and disposal squad of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) units and will begin operation from Thursday, after the unit was fully briefed on operating the MROV.
“The MROV was procured from Canada and since the last one month, the CISF unit was understanding operations of the machine. After fully studying its operation, the CISF will start using the MROV from Thursday,” informed a source at CISF.
The MROV is a remote operated machine and will assist security forces in handling unattended and suspicious baggage at the airport, which would earlier be done manually by CISF personnel at the risk of their lives.
The MROV is also capable of scanning the contents and can be used further to lift suspicious items and take it away to places away from danger.
The MROV is equipped with X-ray machines to scan objects and take it away from people. It can also be used to pull people in case they are stuck and is capable of pulling vehicles.
This machine can be operated via remote to a range of upto a distance of 1 km.
The MROV also has arrangements to install a "Water Jet Destructor" to combat and defuse bombs on its own without risking lives of CISF personnel and other people.
