Unauthorised cops throw caution to wind, continue to issue challans

PANAJI

The Traffic Cells, if not all, seem unfazed with the gross problem the e-challan machines are enduring and it is evident from the fact that certain Cells are still allowing personnel below the rank of Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) to use these machines.

It has thus raised strong possibility of multiple login IDs for these machines, given that unauthorized policemen are not supposed to access these devices for issuing challans.

The Goan's photographer took a round of the capital city only to find that at several locations, some constables and hawaldars were found in possession of the e-challan devices and also issuing challans to the violators.

This situation comes up amidst concerns about the Calangute Traffic Cell, which is under scanner for not only allowing constables and hawaldars to use the Point of Sale machines, but also for logging in on multiple devices and at multiple locations simultaneously.

While this practice continues, it is learnt that the department will write to the National Informatics Centre to investigate the vulnerabilities and address the problem.

However no action is still date taken against the concerned persons who have been caught taking advantage of the flaws, at the coastal traffic cell.
