Loyola High School, Margao won the Subroto Mukherjee Under-14 football tournament State title with a hard-fought 2-1 win over St Britto's HS, Mapusa at Santa Cruz ground on Monday. In an all-Jesuit school finals of the tournament organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, the Britto boys fought back hard in the second half but narrowly lost.
Athletics selection trials for National Games
MARGAO: The Goa Athletics Association (GAA) will conduct selection trials to finalise the State's men's and women's athletics contingent for the 37th National Games to be held in Goa from October 25.
The selection trials will be held on Wednesday, August 30 from 9 am to 12 pm. Athletes aged between 16 to 40 can take part in the selection trials to be conducted under the guidance of GAA chief coach Patrick Suares and coach Desiree Pereira. Compassion FC win exhibition match at Betalbatim
The Compassion FC team won a women’s exhibition match against Sesa FA in the Festival Cup 2023 organised by Betalbatim Sporting Club. Compassion FC beat Sesa FA 6-5 via the tiebreaker after the match ended in a 2-2 draw at Betalbatim ground.
Turambekar wins Zee Marathi award
Football coach Anju Turambekar was awarded 'Unch Majha Zoka' to honour her work by Zee Marathi channel in Mumbai recently. The former Dempo SC technical director, a native of Bekanal village in Gadhinglaj taluka of Maharashtra, received the award for her achievements in the field of football and for her contribution to the overall development of the region by bringing the culture of sports to the people living in rural areas through the AT Foundation and AdapT Football Academy which she established herself. Turambeker is on the Grassroots Development Panel of the Asian Football Confederation.
